Homemade Big Mac Sauce recipe
I don't eat fast food anymore, but I did enjoy Big Mac sauce when I did. After some experimentation, I believe this recipe approximates the flavour fairly well. In my opinion it is actually superior to the real thing, if only because this recipe uses fewer artificial components.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon vinegar *
- 2 small / 1 medium sized gherkin (pickle)
- 1.5 teaspoon English mustard
- 1.5 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1.5 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- A pinch of black pepper
* Any vinegar will do, but for best results I recommend raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. This gives the sauce a nice acidic kick.
Method:
Simply combine the ingredients in a small bowl. You can use a food processor or an electric whisk if you have one. For the gherkin (pickle), use a cheese grater to mince it as finely as possible. Ideally make one night in advance as the flavour will improve from being refrigerated overnight.
I have tried many different recipes that claim to emulate the flavour of Big Mac sauce and this has been the most successful by far. It goes great with burgers (obviously) and can be a nice dipping sauce too.
